    My Thoughts:

    Project Brief: Secure-Trade

    A Decentralized Multi-Sig Escrow System

    1. Executive Summary

Secure-Trade is a full-stack Decentralized Application (DApp) designed to eliminate fraud in high-value transactions, such as luxury fashion resale and real estate. The system replaces traditional, expensive escrow services with a 2-out-of-3 Multi-Signature Smart Contract. Funds are only released when a combination of the Buyer, Seller, or a neutral Arbiter (Legal Node) provides digital signatures.

    2. Technology Stack

To ensure the project is industry-standard the following tools will be used:

    · Smart Contract Language: Solidity ^0.8.0 (targeting the Ethereum Virtual Machine).

    · Blockchain Libraries: Ethers.js (to bridge the frontend and the blockchain).

    · Development Environment: Remix IDE for rapid testing and Hardhat for deployment/debugging.

    · Wallet Integration: MetaMask (for user authentication and transaction signing).

    · Hosting: Fleek or 4EVERLAND (to host the frontend on IPFS).

    3. User Personas & Logic

The DApp functions as a "Trustless Vault" with three key roles:

    1. The Buyer: Deposits the purchase price into the contract.

    2. The Seller: Receives funds only after verification.

    3. The Arbiter (The "Third Key"): A verified expert (Lawyer or Authenticator) who confirms the "Real World" condition (e.g., house title signed or luxury bag verified) to trigger the release or refund.

    4. Dataset Strategy

The project will be grounded in real-world data to simulate a live environment:

    · Asset Data: Kaggle "Real Estate Property Transactions" (Florida/Arizona). This provides realistic property IDs, prices, and locations.

    · Transaction Logic: Modeled after Gnosis Safe multi-sig logs and Propy on-chain deed transactions.

    —

    5. Hands-On Lab Design (The Demo)

The project will be demonstrated through 4 specific technical tasks:

    · Task 1: Deployment: Deploying the contract and initializing the three wallet addresses.

    · Task 2: The Lock-In: The Buyer account sends Test ETH to the contract.

    · Task 3: Legal/Expert Verification: The Arbiter account reviews the asset metadata and "approves" the transaction on-chain.

    · Task 4: Automated Settlement: Executing the transfer once the 2-signature threshold is met and verifying the transaction on a block explorer (Etherscan).

    ### **Background**

Organizations today face a complex landscape of digital identities and access requirements, with a growing reliance on cloud services and the need to protect sensitive information against internal and external threats. Effective Identity and Access Management (IAM) is crucial for ensuring that only authorized users have access to the resources they need while preventing unauthorized access and data breaches. The NIST CSF 2.0 provides a structured approach for managing cybersecurity risks and is appropriate for developing a robust IAM plan.

    ### **Instructions**

Your IAM plan must address the following elements:

    #### **Introduction and Scope:**

    – Provide a brief introduction to IAM and its importance in today’s environment.
    – Ensure to cover user accounts, and applications and service accounts.
    – Define the scope of your IAM plan, including the systems, applications, and data it covers.
    – Briefly describe the organization for which the plan is being developed (you may use a hypothetical organization but must provide a context).

    #### **Governance (NIST CSF 2.0 Govern Function):**

    – **Policies and Procedures:** Develop policies and procedures for managing digital identities, authentication, and access control, taking into account legal and regulatory requirements such as GDPR.
    – Describe how the organization will define and enforce access control policies for various resources and user roles.
    – **Risk Management:** Outline the approach to risk assessment for identity and access management, including identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities related to both internal and cloud-based assets.
    – **Compliance and Audit:** Detail how the IAM plan will ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, and internal policies. Describe how you will ensure the systems are continuously monitored for appropriate access.

    #### **Protection (NIST CSF 2.0 Protect Function):**

    – **Authentication Mechanisms:** Describe the authentication methods that will be used, such as multi-factor authentication (MFA), and consider different types of authentication, like biometrics, security tokens, and passwords, while noting the challenges associated with passwords and password reuse, including the challenges of securing service and application accounts.
    – **Authorization and Access Control:** Detail how access privileges will be assigned and managed based on user roles, attributes, or other criteria, considering different models of access control, such as Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC).
    – **Privileged Access Management:** Describe how access to privileged accounts will be controlled, monitored, and audited in both the internal and external environments.
    – **Data Protection:** Explain how the IAM system will safeguard sensitive data, considering various types of data and potential risks from data leakage and loss of control when using third-party cloud providers.
    – **Cloud-Specific Considerations:** Discuss how the IAM plan will address the unique challenges of managing access to cloud services, such as shared responsibility, interoperability, and dynamic user groups. This should include the use of protocols such as SAML and OAuth.
    – **Monitoring and Logging:** Describe how user access activities will be monitored and logged to detect unauthorized access or suspicious behavior. Discuss how these logs will be audited and used to support compliance activities.

    #### **Self-Sovereign Identity Considerations (Optional but Recommended):**

    – Discuss the potential of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) in improving user control and privacy while using your proposed IAM system.
    – Discuss how decentralized identity management could be integrated into the system, taking into consideration the issues of transparency and trust.

    #### **Conclusion:**

    – Summarize the key components of your IAM plan.
    – Briefly discuss the potential challenges and future directions of Identity and Access Management in the current landscape.

    #### **Additional Considerations:**

    – **Integration with Existing Systems:** Discuss how your IAM plan will integrate with existing systems and infrastructure.
    – **User Experience:** Address how the IAM plan will balance security with user convenience.
    – **Emerging Technologies:** Consider the impact of emerging technologies such as AI/ML in enhancing or complicating IAM. Discuss how machine learning can be used to improve the system through things like behavioral analysis and access control policy development.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

In your response to Benita and Kristy post, address the following:

Compare the scaling challenges that you have chosen to the choices of your peers. Explain the importance of communication style and work collaboration processes in overcoming these challenges.

Do you agree with the characteristics of managers identified by your peers? Justify your view.

    Benita Post

My name is Benita. I am an MBA candidate focusing on operations and supply chain management. I also love what I do as a strategic program manager for a major telecom provider and one of the Big 4 here in Philly. When I’m not solving problems, creating culture and rocking it as a PM, you can find me reading, vibing to music, or building Lego models with my wife, Natalie. My life is pretty predictable, and that is by design.

Change is not easy, but it’s necessary for growth. As someone in corporate spaces where I am consistently preparing for or coaching people through situations that require change, I hope to learn more about effective ways to address the organization and its stakeholders about issues, the art of addressing resistance and challengers to organizational change, and how to maintain positive team moral when working through an organizational change.

Forbes (2022) describes scaling or scalability as “the ability of a company to increase its qualitatively constant output or revenue without the input resources or costs increasing to the same extent.”  As an organization is looking to increase or grow its output or revenue, one key challenge it may come across is having inefficiencies in production or operations and not addressing these inefficiencies prior to expanding and adding more pressure (Francis, 2025). Another challenge that may be a factor is the speed at which the organization decides to scale. Scaling too fast can cause inefficiencies and unhappy stakeholders. If an organization decides to take their time, they are at risk of losing demand to its competitors.

Middle managers are truly the neck of any operation. Supervisors, team leaders, and managers typically have the buy-in of their team and should know how to motivate each employee through any change, to get things done. They are also privy to each employees’ strengths and talents, making it so that building a diverse team with a remarkable skill set is part of their arsenal.

I have seen and learned over time that the characteristics middle managers and team leaders should have to support a growing organization are highly effective communication skills, resilience, and attention to detail. These characteristics are key to delivering strategies, handling setbacks and stress in a highly stressful situation, and having the ability to address all elements of work, keeping focus on the organization’s goal and mission.

    Kristy Post

My name is Kristy Rapp, and I am a licensed mental health counselor currently working as the Director of Quality Improvement for a small health plan in Massachusetts that primarily serves Medicaid members. Our plan operates in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire and, in addition to Medicaid, offers Exchange and Medicare lines of business. This course is particularly timely, as we recently insourced behavioral health services from a long-term vendor, and managing this expansion of day-to-day operations has presented several change management challenges. I believe this course will help me become more intentional about navigating change and better supporting my team through periods of growth.

One key challenge an organization faces when scaling is maintaining operational efficiency and consistent performance. As organizations grow, informal processes that once worked well often become insufficient. According to Greiner (1998), organizational growth introduces predictable periods of crisis that require changes in structure, leadership, and coordination. Without formal systems and clear role definitions, scaling can lead to inefficiencies, miscommunication, and declining performance.

A second challenge organizations encounter during growth is preserving organizational culture. Rapid expansion often requires onboarding new employees quickly, which can dilute shared values and norms if leadership is not intentional. Research by Klein et al. (2013) suggests that leadership behavior strongly influences organizational culture and overall effectiveness. When leaders fail to reinforce values consistently during periods of change, employee engagement and alignment may suffer.

Middle managers and team leaders play a critical role in navigating these challenges. They serve as the connection between executive leadership and frontline employees, translating strategic goals into daily actions while providing feedback upward. During growth, middle managers help stabilize teams by clarifying expectations, reinforcing cultural norms, and managing performance across expanding teams (Greiner, 1998).

To effectively support a growing organization, middle managers and team leaders should demonstrate strong communication skills, adaptability, and leadership awareness. Klein et al. (2013) emphasizes that effective leaders influence culture through their behaviors, decision-making, and interactions with employees. Additionally, middle managers must be capable of guiding teams through change, addressing uncertainty, and maintaining accountability as organizational complexity increases.

Overall, organizational growth presents both opportunities and challenges. By recognizing the predictable issues associated with scaling and empowering capable middle managers, organizations can sustain performance and culture throughout the growth process.
