Organizing a Paragraph This exercise, like the one in Chapter 6, is based on the principle of subordinating specific facts to more general statements, but here there is an added complication. First, find the most general point (the most comprehensive generalization) and label it “l.” Then, find the most logical sequence in which the other sentences should follow, using “2,” “3,” “4,” etc. That is, some of these sentences are equivalent to each other in terms of specificity, but there is an underlying logic to their sequencing. Nebraska farmers stopped trains and took off carloads of cattle. Wisconsin farmers dumped milk on the roadsides and fought with deputy sheriffs. Extreme actions taken by farmers especially in the Midwest.
