  • [ANSWERED] What connections could be made? What stuck out? Why did it stick out?…

    Stop, Look, Listen
This discussion will stem from a writing exercise. Here’s what to do:
Go for a 15-minute walk by yourself (no cell phones allowed). If you’d prefer to find a spot to sit indoors where there are people around (like a coffee shop or mall), that’s cool as well. Take in the sights, sounds, smells, and whatever else that may come about. Jot down the images that you see during these 15 minutes. You can write sentences, single words, or images.
When you finish the walk (or the 15 minute Stop, Look, Listen session), begin the process of sorting through the imagery to create a poem. What connections could be made? What stuck out? Why did it stick out? Write a brief reflection on the process after completing the poem. Answer the following questions in your discussion board:
What connections could be made? What stuck out? Why did it stick out?
    What worked? What didn’t work?
What was difficult about the process?
Don’t feel like you have to answer every single reflective question. Just provide your thinking about the exercise.

One strategy for maintaining the health care need for a child with Autism would be to keep the lights lowered and to keep the noise level down. One activity that could be done to help prepare the other students for this is a quiet reading time where all the students are in quiet areas reading to themselves or quietly with another student. An activity that could help to improve the social and emotional development of a child with autism is to play a game with them that requires them to take turns. Showing these students how to take turns with you will give them the basis on how to play with the other students in the class.

  • [ANSWERED] Reflecting back on last week’s presentation children with autism have many needs for health care….

Reflecting back on last week’s presentation children with autism have many needs for health care. With this impairment, there are many strategies one can take to help them in the classroom depending on the level of need. early detection can be symptoms including difficulty communicating, difficulty with social interactions, obsessive interest, and repetitive behaviors. It is easy to misdiagnose this disorder so it is very important to be aware of the difference. With proper assessments and exams from a professional thorough evaluation, one can determine their impairment. Parents, caregivers, and teachers can then plan an individualized educational program for the student (IEP). Since autism is a neurological disorder symptoms can be alleviated but not cured. Students with autism may struggle with some things but are capable of growth. When working with a diverse class it’s best to not point out their difference but to plan activities that include everyone. One activity that can help all children in the class with social-emotional skills is to play the “just like me” activity. Gather all students on the circle rug or in front of the class so they can see each other. Have each child share something about themselves. Like I have a pet dog, my birthday is in June, or I love pizza. If the statement applies to the other students, have them raise their hands. this helps remind them to see that other students have the same interest and likes as their peers. Which in turn can help build likeliness with other students and maybe even friendships. It’s a good way to see that no matter the differences they all have similarities that they share. It also helps children with waiting their turn and communication skills. Comment as you see fit. Min 40 words or more
