Lets have some fun and explore mass media and the family in this critical thinking assignment by looking at cultivation theory.Cultivation theory, which was developed by media researchers, suggests that there are consistent images, themes, and stereotypes that cut across programming genres. As a whole, these different media images cultivate a view of the family and gender roles that is consistent. Thus, viewers who watch comedies, soap operas, reality shows, news stories and weekly news programs, sporting events, dramas, and late-night television programs will develop similar and consistent views.Unfortunately, these media views of the family and gender roles are oftentimes partially or completely incorrect and widespread. Males are generally viewed as more ambitious and successful than women, and women are more nurturing and emotional than men. Similarly, the view of the family presented in Leave it to Beaver, The Brady Bunch, Roseanne, The Crosby Show, The Simpsons, and Modern Family has influenced generations of viewers thoughts about the typical family system in the United States. The family has never been as perfect as we were led to believe by the Cleaver family of Leave it to Beaver, and it is generally not as dysfunctional as is presented in The Simpsons.Your task in this assignment is to look at one of your favorite network or cable shows and discuss the view of the family and gender roles that may be created from the show. After you have read Chapter 13 and learn about the family, complete this assignment:Describe and discuss your favorite show and how it depicts the family, marriage, and gender roles. Be sure to give specific examples from the show and the characters so that anyone who has never seen the show can fully understand your views and comments.
Is the family depicted as what is considered traditional, why or why not? Single parent household? Nuclear or extended? Stepfamilies or blended families? Is it a patriarchal, matriarchal, or egalitarian family?
What roles do men and women play in the family? What roles do children play? What roles do men and women play in the household chores and income earning? Who takes the responsibility for child rearing? Who does inside chores and who does outside chores?
What about Marriage? Is marriage or divorce depicted? What about cohabitation? Are there heterosexual or homosexual relationships? Are the relationships depicted as monogamy, serial monogamy, polygamy or polyandry?
Write your answer as one 3-5 paragraph essay. Your essay should be at least 500 words and appropriately have an introduction, body, and conclusion.

Must be submitted to the course Blackboard page by 6pm on Friday, Sept. 14In 1956, the Afro-Trinidadian political theorist C. L. R. James published an essay entitled, Every Cook Can Govern: A Study of Democracy in Ancient Greece and Its Meaning for Today. We have read Plato and Aristotle, two ancient Greek philosophers who lived in democratic Athens but who, as James put it, detested the system.
This is a challenging topic. You will need to understand Jamess argument, be well versed in the works of Plato and Aristotle, and think creatively about how best to respond to these questions. You are encouraged to get an early start and to see me during office hours so that we can work together to develop an outstanding paper. Your paper must be typed and printed, double-spaced, and 12-point font. Please title your paper, number your pages, and cite all references. You MUST support your argument with textual evidence. More specifically, your paper must include at least five quotations taken directly from the assigned course readings; you will lose five points from your paper grade for each missing quotation under that five-quotation threshold (e.g., if you cite only three passages, you will lose 10 points; if you cite only two, you will lose 15, etc.). No single style guide predominates in political theory, so you may choose which one youd like (Chicago, MLA, APA, etc.) just be consistent. If you have questions about citations or references, please let me know. You should aim for about five pages, although it is up to you to determine an appropriate length. There is a danger in writing too much, just as there is a danger in writing too little; please see me if you have any questions about page length.
All written work must be submitted electronically to the course Blackboard page. Late work will not be accepted. Extensions will not be granted, except under extreme circumstances, with at least 48 hours advance notice, with appropriate documentation, and in consultation with Student Services and your academic advisor

Position Argument essay: 800 words minimum, formatted in MLA with a Works Cited List. This three draft essay is a thesis-driven argument that strives to meet the standards detailed in the rubric. You will write a position paper in response to the essay in Reading Critically, Writing Well by Amitai Etzioni: “Working at McDonald’s” on page 240. You will argue for or against the positions Etzioni takes about high school students holding job, agreeing or disagreeing with Etzioni, while using the article as a source and a reference. Read the article carefully to understand what he is claiming. Your purpose is to convince your readers to take your argument seriously. Therefore, you will need to acknowledge readers’ opposing views as well as any objections or questions they might have. This is not a review; you are not evaluating Etzioni’s essay; you are taking a position while referencing each of his claims as a focus point. Brainstorming/Pre-writing questions to consider: Support your answer with reasons. ” What do you think of Etzioni’s observations on the use and what he considers the general abuse of the money teens earn? ” What are some of the opinions, values, or beliefs that Etzioni uses to support his judgment that working at McDonalds is bad for teenagers? ” Does Etzioni’s essay remind you of any jobs you have had in the past? What would Etzioni have thought of your job? Position papers take on controversial issues that have no obvious “right” answer, no truth everyone accepts, no single authority everyone trusts. Consequently, simply gathering information – fact finding or expert sources – will not settle these disputes because ultimately they are a matter of opinion and judgment. Although it is not possible to prove that a position is right or wrong, it is possible to convince others through a well-constructed, reasoned argument. You must use and cite the one source from the text, but no more than three in total. Anything outside your own experience, or that is not considered common knowledge, must be cited, but your own ideas and voice must clearly be heard in the paper, while using the source as evidence to support your claim. You may NOT use Wikipedia as a source, but may use it to see what the conversation is about in your topic (make sure to scroll to the bottom of their page to see their credible sources). Be sure to review how to use quotes, paraphrasing, and summary effectively, and how to integrate evidence into a paper while citing correctly, both in-text and on correctly formatted MLA Works Cited List.

Practicum Journal Entry: Certification Plan
Assignment 1: Week 1 Practicum Journal Entry: Certification Plan
Psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioners currently have only one choice for certification, which is through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The ANCC offers the psychiatric/mental-health nurse practitioner (across the lifespan) board certification (PMHNP-BC). In many states, board certification is needed as a prerequisite to being granted an NP license. Even if board certification is not a requirement for state licensure, it may be a requirement to receive privileges in various hospitals and other health care facilities. It may also be required by malpractice insurance providers prior to issuing coverage to NPs.
In this Practicum Journal Assignment, you will develop a plan, which will serve as the road map for you to follow to attain your certification.
