1 Basic news story: Write a story based on the fol-lowing information. Write a focus sentence before you start your story. For this story, your focus sentence should be the results of the study. If you want a lead that gets directly to the point, your focus sentence could also be your lead. Once you have written a focus sentence, add a suggestion for visual presentation — a photograph, chart, facts box, video excerpt or other graphic
illustration. Decide what facts, if any, should be duplicated in the story and the graphic. Then organize the story by placing facts, quotes and elaboration in an order, with the most important information near the top of the story and the least important material near the bottom; and perhaps end with a good quote.
