On Thanksgiving Day 2008, the world looked
on in horror as terrorists armed with assault rifles, submachine guns, and hand
grenades attacked Mumbai, India’s financial and entertainment capital for
nearly three days (November 26–29). The final result was 166 people killed.
Among the direct targets were two of the city’s most famous 5-star hotels: the
TajMahal Palace and Tower and the Oberoi Trident complex. Western tourists and
businesspeople especially were singled out for attack. The final death toll
included 28 foreign nationals from 10 countries, 6 of which were Americans. Use
the Internet (Wikipedia.org) to familiarize your team with the November 28,
2008, attack on Mumbai. Next, assume that your team is operating a large hotel in
a major metropolitan area such as New York, London, Paris or Mumbai. What are
three concrete actions you could employ to reduce the threat to your guests and
property that could result from your hotel being targeted by terrorists?
