    **Discussion Assignment Instructions**

    Overview

Discussions bring dialogue and communication into our learning experience. Unlike so much of the unsubstantiated opinion we see in the public square and social media, these discussions provide a space for in-depth analysis and application of the topics in our Learn readings and presentations. Each discussion is a mini-research paper developing conclusions that are supported by scholarly sources and critical analysis. The replies are expressly assigned to respond to classmates with different conclusions or analysis and require civil discourse to broaden understanding of the topics.

    Instructions

Each discussion consists of 2 parts:

    1) a thread of at least 300 words in response to the provided prompt and

    2) replies of at least 150 words each to 2 classmates’ threads.

Each thread and each reply must reference at least 2 scholarly sources other than the course textbook, cited in current APA format (including both in-text citations and a reference list). You must also support each thread and reply with thoughtful analysis (considering assumptions, analyzing implications, and comparing/contrasting concepts) and Biblical worldview integration.

Well-developed, complete worldview analysis of the situation requires more than simply adding a Bible verse at the end of the post. Each thread and each reply must include at least 1 verse from Scripture, quoted and applied as an integral part of the discussion of the applicable issues in the context of a Biblical worldview.

For each reply, read the threads posted by your classmates and reply to 2 threads that presented a different conclusion than your thread. Note that comments such as “I like what you said,” “that is a good comment,” and “I disagree with your comment” do not constitute complete replies. Rather, state reasons that support your conclusions with additional and/or alternate research/ideas/thoughts.

Submit each thread by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the assigned Module: Week. Submit two replies by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Monday of the same Module: Week.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

Describe a dilemma you are currently facing, and the variables involved. Would this dilemma be best resolved by using a correlational analytical approach or a causal-comparative analytical approach?

Then, choose a peer(s) response and make a case for using the opposite analytical approach (e.g., If your peer(s) advocates using a test of relationships, such as simple regression analysis, to address their dilemma, make a case for using a test of differences, such as the t-test).

A dilemma I’m facing is how to prioritize limited facilities resources on an inpatient unit at Penrose Hospital (Colorado) for example do we put our time and dollars into reactive work orders that keep popping up (leaks, temperature complaints, equipment downtime), or do we shift more aggressively toward preventive upgrades that reduce risk over time (PM compliance, high-touch cleaning reliability, airflow/pressure checks, and targeted room refreshes)?  The variables in that decision are the size of the backlog, staff availability, budget, downtime impact, patient acuity, unit census, complaint volume, and safety indicators that matter to leadership (for example, infection trends, environmental deficiencies, or repeated utility interruptions). This has been a total pain that we can't seem to organize well with a lack of capital funding, fte allocations etc.

I think my dilemma is best addressed with a causal-comparative (ex post facto) approach because the “groups” already exist in practice: units or time periods where proactive facility/EVS interventions were implemented versus units or periods where they were not, and then outcomes can be compared. In causal-comparative research, you categorize people or settings into groups based on a preexisting variable and compare them on an outcome, rather than manipulating conditions like a true experiment (Ary et al., 2010, pp. 45, 333–336). A correlational approach would be useful if I only wanted to see whether two variables move together (like higher PM completion rates being associated with fewer equipment failures), but my real question is closer to “what differences show up between two existing approaches,” which aligns more cleanly with causal-comparative design logic (Ary et al., 2010, pp. 45, 351–352).

Over the past two centuries, fossil fuels have helped us build the complex industrialized societies we enjoy today. Yet our supplies of conventional fossil fuels are declining. We have responded to this challenge by expanding our search for new sources of fossil fuels. This will eventually lead to us paying ever-higher economic, health, and environmental costs.

Are there alternatives to reaching further for fossil fuels to meet our increasing demands for energy?

    If so, what are they?

    Comparative Justice Systems Classification Analysis

In this Final Project, you will focus on examining global criminal activity by creating a comparative justice systems classification strategy. The activities completed throughout the course have provided you with knowledge of the various types of laws, criminal justice systems, and criminal activities that occur across the world. Additionally, you have learned about the cultures and processes of the courts, policing and investigative agencies, and corrections in countries worldwide. You will compare, contrast, examine, and classify each country’s criminal justice system, including key cultures and processes in policing, corrections, investigative agencies, and the courts. You will also make recommendations for improvements to these systems within the United States based on what has proven successful for other countries. You will evaluate the global criminal activity and criminal justice systems in each country; analyze the differing cultural perspectives on policing, courts, and corrections in each country; evaluate the international policing and investigative agencies; and, lastly, compile all of this information by creating a comparative justice classification strategy.

First, select three countries from this list:

    · Argentina

    · Germany

    · United states

Then, compare and contrast the court system, policing, corrections, and investigative agencies in these countries with those of the United States. This should be accomplished by creating a table in landscape format using either Microsoft Word or Microsoft Excel. Column headings should include courts, policing/law enforcement, corrections, and investigative agencies. Remember to include your cited resources in correct APA format whether in the table or written portion of the assignment.

In the essay portion of your Final Project, create your assignment based on the information you reviewed when comparing and contrasting the United States with the two countries you chose. In your paper

    · Provide at least one recommendation for improvement to the United States criminal justice system for each of the following:

    · Court system

    · Policing

    · Corrections

    · Investigative agencies

    · Provide a rationale, with supporting resources, for the reasons you are recommending these changes to the United States criminal justice system.

    · Evaluate the criminal justice systems by examining the global criminal activity in the two countries you chose.

    · Analyze the differing cultural perspectives on policing, courts, and corrections of your chosen countries.

    · Evaluate international policing and investigative agencies while creating this comparative justice classification strategy.

    The Final Project

    · Must be at least 10 double-spaced pages in length (not including title and references pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the

    · Must use at least nine credible sources in addition to the course text. There should be at least three scholarly sources per country analyzed in this Final Project (the United States and the two countries chosen by the student).
