    Assignment:
Choose a work that was composed about a conflict or time of conflict. You may find this work either through the internet, youtube, the McKay Music library, the Marriott Library, or ITunesU, or it may be one you have in your own library. Many of your sources may come from internet sites. Please cite the URL address at the end of your paper. Please write in your own words. Do not copy and paste from the internet. If you do choose to quote something from another source, please use quotations and cite the sources. This assignment will be run through TURNITIN to check for plagiarism.
In a 2-3 page paper, answer the following questions about the piece. The paper should be double-spaced, 12 point Times Roman font.
    1. What was the conflict or unrest that the music was composed about or during? Give some historical background information about the conflict.
    2. When was the music composed? Give the closest date possible. Was it during, before, or after the conflict?
    3. Did the music escalate the crisis? Was it designed to do that? Did it reach the audience that needed to hear it?
    4. What do the lyrics discuss? Who’s side of the conflict does the song side with, if any? Who sings the piece?
    5. Discuss the music of the piece. What is the texture? What instruments are used? What is the range? What is the melody like…conjunct or disjunct? What is the meter? Describe the rhythm. Do these musical elements make the piece more noticeable or unique?

    Assignment Brief:
This assignment requires you to identify, research and analyse three occupational health hazards from your place of work or from an occupational setting you are familiar with. The submission should be written from the perspective of a safety practitioner, reporting back to the Chief Executive.
The main body of the report should take the following format:
Part 1 (approx. 600 words) Provide a description of your chosen workplace and organisation. This should include the size of the organisation, the nature of work undertaken, the employment profile and the work patterns. The health and safety management structure should be included with an indication of such matters as worker engagement, resources and housekeeping which may give some indication as to the health and safety culture. You should also include identification of the significant occupational health hazards in the work environment and must ensure that you include at least three different classes of hazard.
Part 2 (approx. 2000 words) You need to select three of the hazards identified in part 1 and ensure they exemplify three different classes of hazard. Marks cannot be awarded if a class is duplicated. Identify which class of hazard each represents and explain the type of ill-health each hazard might cause and the extent of the ill-health caused in the country where your workplace is based. You should also explain why the hazard is significant at your chosen site.
For each hazard and with reference to the literature, critically analyse how your organisation has assessed and/or might have assessed the magnitude of the risks associated with each of the three hazards. This should address the key steps of each risk assessment, including consideration of who undertook the assessment and the extent to which the assessment could be said to be suitable and sufficient and represent good practice. Any significant weaknesses in the risk assessment procedures should be identified.
You should then critically analyse the existing control measures that are in place and then justify additional measures that may be necessary to meet the minimum legal requirements. You should also identify additional control measures which could be taken to exceed minimum legal compliance

    Case Study Paper
    General requirements
write clearly, accurately, fluently, and on topic
integrate knowledge from class and relevant readings
end with a conclusion to wrap up your ideas
include references to the textbook and other sources you have used
use Times New Roman 12 or Arial 11-point font, and 1-inch margins
    double-spaced: 4-6 pages
    Specific Requirements
This paper should be a case study on a question of your choice, related to development in the prenatal period, infancy, and early childhood (0 to 5 years old). It must include an interview about or observation of an infant or young child (or you can choose to do it about yourself as a infant or young child).
The organization must include the following sections and you need to include these headings in your paper:
    1. Introduction
    a) Clearly define the question or problem you are going to address, so that an uninformed reader can understand. What question are you trying to answer in this paper? Examples include:
What was my attachment pattern as an infant and how has this affected my development?
Is temperament stable from early infancy on or does it change?
    How do self-regulation skills develop?
If you are uncertain about a topic, please contact me!
    b) Describe what is already known about this topic.
    Include information from
at least two scientific, peer-reviewed research articles
about this topic. You can find such articles by going to the www.utah.edu (Links to an external site.) homepage, then to Students and to Marriott Library. Then click on “Databases” and go to P and PsycInfo (Ebsco). (Or see the tutorial Links to an external site.on Canvas). Let me know if you have any trouble finding articles.
    Include
    information from the textbook
    and other relevant class materials.
It is optional to use information from other sources, such as popular media, websites, but always make clear what source of information you are referring to.
    2. Method
    In your
    method
section, describe how you obtained information about your question. You will be required to do a ‘case study’ on this topic, by
    doing an interview
(e.g., with your own parent(s) and/or siblings; with a parent of a young child, with a pregnant woman)
    and/or an observation
. You do not need to describe your literature search, but do describe clearly how you did the interview and/or the observation.
    Important:
Explain to any participants that you are working on a class assignment, that their information will be treated confidentially, and that you cannot make any assessments or recommendations based on your observations/interview. You may also write the paper about yourself when you were an infant or young child. An interview with your parents or others who knew you then would need to be included in this case.
Include the following information in your Method section:
Be sure to include information on who you did the interview with (no names, but: gender, age, relation to you), and where and when you did the interview.
Also describe how you used this method. Include the
    questions you asked
    or the
    behaviors you observed
    – either in the Method section (if it is a short list), or at the very end of the paper in an Appendix.
    3. Findings
    Describe
the findings from your interview/observation. Be clear, so that a reader with no knowledge of the subject can follow what you found. Describe clearly what the person did or said in response to your questions (or as you observed them).
    4. Conclusions
    In this section,
    integrate
the findings from the interview or observation with what you learned from the literature (articles, textbook). Describe critically which answers you found to your original research question, which questions remain open, and which implications your findings have (e.g., for parents of infants or for whomever this could be relevant).
    5. References
Include a list of references to all materials used,
    in APA format
(Links to an external site.). Mention authors (last names first, followed by the initials of their first names), year of publication, title of the publication, and source of publication (if it is a book, include the publisher; if it is a journal article, include the journal title and page numbers). Examples:
    Gelfand, D.M., & Drew, C.J. (2003).
    Understanding Child Behavior Disorders
    (4th
Ed.). Belmont, CA: Wadsworth, Thompson Learning.
    Barth, J.M., & Parke, R.D. (1993). Parent-child relationship influences on children’s transition to school.
    Merrill-Palmer Quarterly, 39
    , 173-195.
Baxter, L.A. (1988). A dialectical perspective on communication strategies in relationship development. In S.W. Duck (Ed.), A Handbook of Personal Relationships (pp. 257-273). NY: Wiley and sons.

Read the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s page on ADHD; the link is provided below. Use the close reading techniques described in Chapter 1 of the e-book. It may be helpful to print off the page and annotate the text. Then, summarize the website in 150-250 words. Your summary should be similar to the example provded in Chapter 1 of the textbook.
Your summary should answer at least three of the questions below:
What key facts or details does the CDC share about ADHD?
In addition to the facts, what impression does the CDC create about ADHD? In other words, how does it make readers feel or what does it make readers think about ADHD?
What would motivate the CDC, which is a government institution, to post a page about ADHD?
Why, in your view, is the Web page a good or bad method for the CDC to distribute information?
How do you think the average reader would react to the CDC’s page about ADHD?
(Hint: Do not try to summarize every detail. Focus on the main points the page is trying to convey. It is helpful to think of the CDC’s page in terms of its sections, rather than its many facts.)

  • In the rhetorical analysis question, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding that…

In the rhetorical analysis assignment, you will be expected to demonstrate an understanding that every text is created for a unique situation and audience. You will need to act on this by analyzing the decisions made by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on their website about ADHD. This includes the persuasive appeals the CDC uses.
Aristotle believed that speakers and writers used three kinds of persuasive appeals. Logos is an appeal to the audience’s powers of reason or logic. Pathos is an appeal to emotions or senses. Ethos is the personal appeal, charisma, or credibility of the speaker or writer. These three appeals are known as the rhetorical triangle because all three sides work together to make a text effective or not.
In your own words, explain the concepts of pathos, logos, and ethos and why they are important appeals to recognize in a text. Next, use the CDC’s page about ADHD to analyze the ethos, logos, and pathos in the document.
Consider the following questions in your response:
What do you think about the logic presented in the document?
What do you think about its emotional appeal?
What about its appeal to authority or credibility?
Does the CDC effectively present each of the rhetorical appeals? Why or why not?
