This task needs to highlight your ability to research a focus area of the Arts and to consider the key
concepts, skills and techniques that may be in focus as children engage with learning
    provocations/resources.
Students completing this task have the opportunity to complete it authentically, with children or
hypothetically. This needs to be explicitly identified in the first section of the task – Information
    Gathering.
    INFORMATION GATHERING
    Introduction:
Introduce your design with discussion explaining the importance of the Arts in early learning.
Identify your chosen focus area and the key skills, concepts and techniques that are unique to this area
of the Arts. Identify whether this is an authentic or hypothetical curriculum design.
Provocation: Develop a provocation using visuals and discussion to explain how you would use this
provocation to test for children’s interest in this Arts focused curriculum.
Observe: Record children’s responses to your provocation or identify a context for your curriculum
    design.
    QUESTION
Here you are asked to consider how your focus area of the Arts can be embedded into an early year’s
program, either leading from children’s responses to the provocation if you are working with children or
in identifying a hypothetical context in which your Arts curriculum could be enacted.
    Where could learning go?
Include a concept map of potential pathways of learning

What do we want children to know about, understand and be able to do through their ongoing
    learning?
Leading from the previous section draw on the information that you have identified in order to build
your intent. You need to clearly identify Arts skills, concepts, techniques and curriculum connections.
This may mean that you have to research the Arts, interpret the outcomes in light of your intent and look
to other curriculum areas for connections.

Write or present a convincing argument
    with supporting textual evidence
from the texts in the course, as well as others of your own choosing, as to why Shakespeare still matters or does not matter. Explain whether his writing reflects the human condition or not. Is Shakespearean literature still relatable today? Explain with reasons and textual evidence.
    If writing:
In an essay, convince your audience as to why Shakespeare still matters or does not matter. Does his writing reflect the human condition today? Explain your ideas clearly with two to three reasons why Shakespeare still is or is not important today.

8-10 slides (Not including title slide and reference slide),
with 3-5 bullets per slide. Use the notes section under each slide to discuss and explain your points; also add appropriate citations within your notes or next to bullet points. A reference list should be placed on your final slide. If using video, your video should be 2-5 minutes long, with a reference list at the end of the video. Each scene with paraphrases or quotes should also include in-text citations. Ensure you include appropriate images that enhance your presentation or video.

This task requires you to produce a 3,000 word essay that responds to the following topic statement:
‘Communication is a multi-faceted, often participatory, and ever-changing process through which meaning(s) are generated in a number of complex ways.’
Respond to this statement by researching and analysing the ways in which meanings are made in a media industry context of your choice, with specific reference to 1-3 examples.
The essay component is worth 30 marks. Note that your reference list is not included in the word count, but in-text citations (in brackets) are.
You must also produce an audio recording of 5 minutes that reflects on the process of developing your essay. The audio recording component is worth 10 marks.
Further advice for completing this assessment task is highlighted under the below headings.
    Focusing your essay
The broad focus of your essay should take place within the industry-related context you selected in Week 8, but you will need to narrow your focus down with the help of your research and your examples. Ideally, you should be able to articulate a central argument in your essay in a single sentence. This argument should relate in some way to the topic statement you have been provided with above, although this is intentionally a very general statement and you could therefore focus your argument in many different ways. Keep in mind the major themes developed in this unit (such as media, narrative, ideology and identity), which might help pinpoint certain issues that you can address through your research and in your analysis.
Your use of a specific example or examples will help you narrow down your focus in terms of what kinds of theories, issues and concepts you address. It’s highly recommended that you choose between one and three examples to give yourself space to analyse these in sufficient depth and connect your analysis back to the theoretical concepts and arguments made in your literature review. You should also link your research and analysis clearly to the topic statement provided above. See Week 10’s topic for advice on how to approach each of these sections. Note that your in-text citations are included in the word count, the reference list is not.
    Completing your essay
You must draw on major themes from the unit materials to help conceptualise your argument about meaning-making in relation to the topic statement provided and the examples you’ve chosen. You may use your textbook in your assignment, but you must also demonstrate a substantial engagement with scholarly sources beyond this. The quality of your use of source material is just as important as the number of sources you use; however, as a rough guide, you should aim to use a minimum of eight (8) additional scholarly sources in your essay.

Begin to plan and write a draft for your Creative Response
Consider a possible option for your Creative SAC, remember it must link in some way to original stories ( The treatment of Bibi Haldar). It could be in terms of themes, issues raised in the stories or major ideas that the stories explore. You could choose a gap in the narrative, a diary/journal entry from the perspective of one of the characters, an alternative ending, a scene from a different characters perspective or some other idea (you should discuss your idea with your teacher)… the choice is yours and you will be rewarded for being original, as choosing an imaginative option is part of the creative process,
but it must connect with the original text
. Once you have chosen a possible idea for your creative you should begin to draft your Creative piece (800 – 1000 words).
