[ANSWERED] List the reinforcing natural consequences that maintain these behaviors in the real world…
List the reinforcing natural consequences that maintain these behaviors in the real world:
Baking cookies
Answering the phone
What are the naturally-occurring reinforcing consequences of:
Saying hello to someone
Driving to the beach before sunrise
Showing up at work on time
Reading a menu
Read each of these scenarios and write down whether or not each illustrates reinforcement:
Brian says “hello” to his friend Fred. Fred punches him in the nose. Thereafter, whenever Brian sees Fred, Brian says hello repeatedly.
Sally completes her math assignment. When she hands it in, the teacher says, “Good going Sally! You are definitely into your work and you do a great job following instructions!” Over the next 3 weeks, Sally does not turn in one single assignment.
Tommy raises his hand to answer a question. The teacher says, “thank you, go ahead.” Not only did Tommy not answer the question, but he didn’t raise his hand again for the remainder of the month.
Eric is reading aloud when the teacher leans over and says, “you are reading so well!”
Kimball shares a toy with her good friend during play group. The teacher smiles at her and pats her on her back.
Diane, during recess, pushes her good friend Carol. The teacher immediately reprimanded Diane. On the next 3 recess periods, Diane was running after Carol to push her.
For each situation below, tell whether or not positive reinforcement has occurred. If the situation is not an instance of positive reinforcement, tell why not. If positive reinforcement has occurred, tell what response has been reinforced and what served as the reinforcer.
The first time Priscilla finished a math unit ahead of the scheduled due date, her teacher gave her bonus points that she used to “buy” free time during class to do a special activity. Priscilla completes the next four out of five math units ahead of their respective due dates.
Frank has always shied away from participating in downhill skiing, because he thought the sport required too much coordination. One winter he decided to take a lesson, since it was offered as a free trial. At the end of class, Frank’s instructor took him aside and told Frank that he was a “natural”. Frank signed up for equipment and four more lessons on the spot.
Annabel rarely spoke above a whisper when called upon in class. To encourage her for emitting a “just audible” response, her teacher had her stand and repeat her answer for the entire class. Annabel didn’t speak aloud again for days.
List at least two examples from your daily lives that illustrate intermittent reinforcement. Be sure to list the behavior, the reinforcement for the behavior, and the typical or possible “schedule” on which the behavior is reinforced (that is, how often is the behavior reinforced?).
Negative Reinforcement:
Identify (by placing a check, writing “yes” or “no” etc.) which of the following situations illustrates the use of negative reinforcement. Do not worry about whether the behavior increases or decreases. Attend to the contingency relationship. Since there is more than one behavior going on in each example, be sure to identify whether it is Eddie’s or the teacher’s behavior you are specifying.
Whenever Eddie complains of a bad headache, his teacher excuses him from the day’s reading lesson, which Eddie really
Whenever Eddie completes three units of science per week, his teacher allows him to proctor his classmates’ assignments, which Eddie likes to do, because, well, Eddie is that type of guy.
Eddie’s teacher subtracts five minutes of recess for every instance in which Eddie is out of seat for 30 or more seconds during study period.
Whenever Eddie tantrums, the teacher stops whatever she is doing and talks to him quietly until he calms down. He tantrums more.
Whenever Eddie is verbally abusive towards another child, the teacher gets very angry and sharply tells Eddie to “stuff it!” He immediately stops.
During computer class, the teacher stands directly behind Eddie while he is seated at the computer. She continuously heckles him and prompts him to finish the assignment quickly, by saying (nonstop) things like “hurry up knucklehead”, “don’t be the last one”, and “I know you can do it”. As soon as Eddie completes the task, the teacher stops talking and moves to the next child. Eddie can now breathe again!
Think of something really unpleasant to you. Think of a behavior of yours. Now, write down a description of negative reinforcement procedure involving these two things.
Explain the difference between negative reinforcement and punishment.
Now provide two real-life examples, one of negative reinforcement and one of punishment, illustrating the difference between the two.
A colleague tells you that she is using negative reinforcement to punish a behavior of her child at home. What do you say to this?

You are required to produce your own report on a topic area focusing on a contemporary issue in multimedia and Information Technology.
Your topic must be determined in consultation with your tutor to ensure content suitability and to avoid excessive duplication of content areas with your peers.
An extensive set of example topics will be made available mid-session, but you are encouraged to identify topic areas on your own initiative and to raise these with your tutor seeking authority to proceed. Topic areas selected on this basis should be of a narrow but detailed nature.

• you will find more motivating, and strive to achieve a higher quality product
• you will embrace, and experience higher levels of self-satisfaction
• you will gain greater generic knowledge, skills and attitudes regarding research and the production of reports.
The Report Task
You are required to produce your own topic report in response to your selected topic area.
The report will be about the impact of computers and information technology, including ethical implications, in a specific area of business, society or culture.
