What is a ‘naturalist’ account of meaning in life? Within that category, assess whether or not there is a plausible form of the objectivist view, according to which having meaning in one’s life is a matter of having certain worthwhile things in it, whether or not one has any pro-stance toward these things.
Notes to include: Objectivists instead say the things in life that add to its meaning do so whether or not one desires these things. Some candidates for being objectively meaningful things in one’s life are: loving relationships, self-knowledge, achievement. One objectivist view, for example, is that any instance of any of these three things adds some meaning in the life of anyone who has it. Metz thinks of objectivism as a form of ‘naturalism’ about meaning in life. He also tends to treat any view that includes any objectivist component as an objectivist view, even if that view also includes a subjectivist component. For instance, he treats as objectivist the view that to add meaning in one’s life is to be both an objectively attractive thing in one’s life and an object of one’s subjective attraction.

Directions:
This week we are starting Project 2 on Cultural Borders. As we have talked about a little bit now, language can create a cultural border. The way we perceive and pronounce names can contribute to that. We are starting this unit by reading “Leaving Your Name at the Border” by Manuel Muñoz.
Step 1:
Carefully read through “Leaving Your Name at the Border” by Manuel Muñoz. Read it slowly! Read it twice!

Step 2:
Fill out an annotation worksheet for the reading.
BlankAnnotation Worksheet

Blank Annotation Worksheet
here. (PDF)
(You can download it, type in your responses, and save your file or you can print it out, write your answers on the worksheet, and post a scan of the document.)
Step 3:
Answer the following questions about the reading. These answers can be submitted as a text submission or added to the end of your annotation worksheet.
What does it mean to “anglicize” a word, a name?
Why, according to the writer, do many people in California’s Central Valley, “regardless of the speaker’s background,” Anglicize the pronunciation of Mexican names? Consider his explanations regarding the demographics of the small towns in the region and the prevailing perceptions of Spanish.
Munoz claims that the Anglicization of his stepfather’s name “ties into something bigger than learning English” (par. 14). Explain what he means by “something bigger.” How does this relate to the idea of cultural borders within the same physical space/border?
In paragraph 8, Munoz mentions the stigma associated with speaking Spanish, saying that “Spanish was and still is viewed with suspicion.” Do you agree that there is stigma with speaking Spanish in the United States? Why or why not? How is that a reflection of Spanish culture within the physical borders of the U.S?
In paragraph 9, what does Munoz realize about what it means to be “white: and “American.” What is his realization? Why is it significant?

The goal of this task is to investigate how index futures can be used to minimise the market risk from holding the stock portfolio. In particular, you need to determine the number of futures contracts for the hedge and report the position in futures contracts to be taken. [15 marks] Task 1.2: Determine the outcome of the hedge on 31st August 2020, on which day the September contract was priced at 6,030. Based on this outcome, discuss whether your client regretted having the stock portfolio hedged or not?

[ANSWERED] There are several factors that can affect the ELL student in the classroom, whether it be…
There are several factors that can affect the ELL student in the classroom, whether it be individual, socioeconomical, or even legal. There are two big socioeconomical factors that can affect a student, the Education Level and the levels of income. Whether the students come from a family with higher income or they come from a family with no income, it affects them. the education level of their parents and family also affects them as well because the ELL student tends to follow in the parents footsteps and if they don’t and choose to go to school they are ridiculed based off of their background. According to Cartledge & Korea, “Research indicates that low-income ELL students are usually behind their peers from higher socioeconomic backgrounds in language and reading skills and they need empirically validated and culturally responsive instruction,” (Cartledge & Kourea, 2008). There are also some political factors that can affect the ELL students, for example, “The Federal government has formally endorsed bilingual education as a necessary and effective method for handling the needs of ELLS through Title VII in 1968 and their Office of Bilingual Education and Minority Language Affairs (OBEMLA) established withing the U.S. Department of Education in 1974 (OBEMLA),” (“The Politics and Programs of English Language Learning”, 2001). This is very big for them because it invloves the two languages that the students are learning. I say that they are still learning their native language because until they can truly master it, they will continue learning. Another issue is the legal side of things, and with this generation, we need to make sure we know our rights and understand them. “Students cannot be discriminated against due to language.” Students cannot be refused enrollment due to Limited English Proficiency (LEP). The grades of F’s, D’s, or U’s shouldn’t be given if English language ability prevents the students from performing the same as a native speaker of English. However, grading decisions are made at the school level and such variables as effort, participation, and attendance should be considered. Students cannot be expelled or suspended because of their limited English proficiency status,” (Overview of Legal Issues Which Impact English Language Learners.). A lot of the time the ELL students fail their classes due to no support. It is up to the teachers to make sure they take all factors into consideration when grading an ELL student.
All the factors that I have mentioned above affect every student but especially the ELL students. The factors can be either a personal factor or family one, in which students get made fun of, or the ELL student may not understand. What it all comes down to is the teachers. The teachers hold the power to do anything in their ability to ensure that EVERY student is successful. Comment as you see fit. Min 50 words or more

This assignment aims to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate your proficiency in reading, understanding and critically evaluating the single-case design research literature. Most of knowledge and skills needed for this assignment you will learn during the weekly case activities, and the first five lectures and tutorials. You are expected to demonstrate your understanding of these research ideas at a level that is appropriate for a graduate teacher: how research is done; of implications of this on using research in practice and on doing research in a classroom as a teacher.
You find
here
a selection of five case studies that were conducted in schools and published in research journals. You are free to choose any 2 or 3 of these studies. (Comparison of 2 cases is sufficient for Credit and Pass grades only. For higher grades, the comparison must include 3 cases.)
You are asked to summarise succinctly these studies, compare their methods and findings and critically evaluate them, focussing on their methodological aspects. You are expected to demonstrate your abilities to identify the main aspects of the cases and synthesise them, compare critical features, as well as transfer what you have learnt from these cases and your comparison to your future professional context. -
