  • [ANSWERED] The chosen books are: Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman and Does my Head look big in this?…

The chosen books are: Terra Nullius by Claire G. Coleman and Does my Head look big in this? by Randa Abdel-Fattah.
This is the detailed plan and it also has the critical texts to be used.
Detailed plan: Taking up two Australian texts, Terra Nullius by Coleman and Does my head look big in this? by Abdel-Fattah, along with the scholarly articles, the voice of the narrator or rather known as point of view will be approached. How the voice of the narrator/s fashions the book will be inspected through this essay. Think about any book that you are reading currently and then think about the characters and narrator/s. There is some kind of voice everywhere, ringing throughout the book. Do you think it plays any role? Yes, the role of perspective. An adult narrator cannot vouch to speak on the behalf of a child. And just like narrative theory is majorly built on temporality, voice of narrators also consist temporal features. A narrator is important because he depicts the incidents in his/her voice using their level of verbal capability. We will look in detail at how that happens.
This essay will be divided into parts, one surveying Coleman’s Terra Nullius and the other focusing on Abdel-Fattah’s Does my head look big in this? Coleman’s speculative-fictional text has a native Jacky who is trying to escape. The first part of this essay will talk about the various voices of the characters in the novel. It will show the frustration that Sister Bagra was facing or the fear Jacky was going through. The second part will focus on Abdel-Fattah’s protagonist Amal Mohamed Nasrullah Abdel-Hakim, who decides to wear a hijab full time. Through her voice in the novel the reader is able to perceive the tension in the situation that has been created, with Amal growing as a teenager and the cultural and religious requirements. The tension that her parents face when she decides to go full time and why they face that fear will also be explained among other elaborations.
    Annotated Bibliography:
Margolin, Uri: “Narrator”. In: Hühn, Peter et al. (eds.): the living handbook of narratology. Hamburg: Hamburg University.
This is literally a one big detailed dictionary about everything that one wants to know on Narrative Theory. Margolin, has noted that a narrator is a ‘textually projected’ and ‘readerly constructed function’. For my project, I will be focusing on the topic Narrator written by Uri Margolin. The contribution that I will gain from Margolin’s essay is that it will help me in analysing how through the minimal textual conditions the voice of the narrator holds the attention of the reader. Margolin has also used examples from multiple texts to demarcate various types of narrator.

How does neutralisation work? Is it really necessary? Does
it arise before the event and act as a causative factor in allowing the
individual to feel released to commit the offence or is it merely a
rationalisation, a strategy used to explain the offence to the authorities (and
possibly others) after the event in order to avoid punishment or blame?
