    ## **Overview**

In today's modern workplace, employees have a wide range of digital tools at their fingertips to meet virtually with colleagues and/or customers.

This assignment allows you to practice your communication, digital proficiency, and productivity skills. Imagine that you are preparing for a Zoom meeting with a colleague to discuss important details. You will share a PowerPoint slide deck with them to organize ideas and strategy.

    ## **Instructions**

    1. In Week 2, you sent Wanda a voicemail, referencing Sara; in Week 4, you emailed Sara Robins of Printables. Now you will prepare a PowerPoint slide deck to share with your Shipping Department manager, John Smith, in a Zoom meeting to discuss important next steps. This should be a PowerPoint presentation with at least five slides. You do not need to record audio for this assignment.
    2. Use professional language and tone appropriate for internal communication with co-workers to develop a slide deck presentation outlining what needs to be done:
    – Identify what task still needs to be completed.
    – Identify which to-do items need to be done by the Shipping Department. The table below contains the items that need to be completed by the Shipping Department.
    – Clarify when the replacement order is scheduled to arrive.
    – Identify which person is responsible for refunding the shipping fees to Printables. You need to mention someone by name here (either invent a specific employee or assign the task to the shipping manager, in particular).
    – Use professional language and tone appropriate for internal communication with co-workers.
    3. Evaluate your PowerPoint presentation and review the [Six Ws Worksheet for Assignment 3 [DOCX]](https://courseroom.capella.edu/courses/58574/files/11067661/download). How do you think your Shipping Manager is feeling, and how will the information in your slide deck improve collaboration between yourself and him? **Note:** You are not required to submit the Six W's Worksheet with this recorded assignment. If needed, edit your slide deck.
    4. Submit your PowerPoint file.

    ## **Requirements**

    – **Format:** Create a PowerPoint presentation consisting of at least five slides.

    **Colleague 1**

    Keona Wilson

One major concern shaping our health care system is the federal government's push to strengthen value-based care through new payment and delivery models implemented by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This includes any alternative payment models that require quality and outcome rather than volume. Within these models, the central Medicare and Medicaid delivery system reform aims to reduce costs while still improving population health outcomes. (CMS,2023)

Applying a **PESTLE** analysis to this issue:

    · Political: Federal policy and CMS Innovation initiatives continue to prioritize value-based care influenced by reimbursement structures and provider participation.

    · Economic: Health care spending continues to rise, prompting payment reforms that centralize cost control and efficiency

    · Social: value-based care encourages attention to population health and community needs that align with the initiatives, with social outcomes

    · Technological: investments in health IT, like electronic health records, data analytics and interoperability, are necessary to measure quality and outcomes effectively under the value-based models

    · Legal: regulatory frameworks around quality reporting, reimbursements, and compliance have been shown to impact how organizations adopt value-based care strategies

    · Environmental: Public health trends and environmental stressors can reinforce the need for resilient care delivery that addresses all chronic diseases and community needs.

Among the six PESTLE factors, the economic factor is expected to have the greatest impact on my future as a healthcare administrator. Value-based payment arrangements often require administrators to manage financial risk, align organizational strategy with performance benchmarks, and ensure efficient use of all resources. (The Commonwealth Fund, 2023) Economic pressures can also shape staffing decisions, technology investments, and service delivery, making financial stewardship and strategic planning essential for leaders in a value-driven environment.

When considering environmental factors through external lenses, these forces suggest that future healthcare delivery in the United States will continue to move towards integrated, outcome-focused systems. Organizations that successfully align with policy arrangements, technological capacity, and population health strategies will be better positioned to improve quality while controlling costs. (CMS,2023) At the same time, administrators must be prepared to navigate the new regulatory complexity models in market competition.

One aspect of the PESTEL analysis directly relates to the social determinants of health is the social factor, primarily with socioeconomic conditions such as income, housing stability, education, and access to transportation. The evidence indicates that social and economic factors account for a substantial portion of health outcomes and of health care utilization. (Health Care Transformation Task Force, 2022) By incorporating social determinants of health screenings and interventions into our value-based care strategies, such as partnering with community organizations or addressing food insecurity and transportation barriers, healthcare organizations may be able to reduce preventable hospitalizations, improve chronic disease management, and advance health equity. These focuses can ultimately support both better patient outcomes and more sustainable healthcare systems.

    **ISSUE: HEALTH CARE ACCESS**

    **Summary of Issue:**

Access to health insurance is continually an issue that affects the delivery and value of care in the United States. For vulnerable and underserved populations lack of coverage inevitably leads to higher death rates. The Institute of Medicine reports that the odds of dying among uninsured relative to those who have coverage are .71 to .97 respectively (Woolhandler & Himmelstein, 2017). The lack of adequate coverage for many individuals due to high costs directly correlates with delayed care. Individuals in the uncovered population often only seek care as a last resort contributing to poorer health outcomes, increased emergency care (Cunningham & Kemper, 1998). Addressing insurance access requires understanding the complex interplay of policy, economic factors, and societal barriers that affect an individual’s ability to obtain and maintain coverage.

    **PESTLE Analysis:**

Access to health insurance is heavily influenced by political policies and reforms that determine coverage options and eligibility criteria. Economic factors, such as individuals’ ability to afford premiums and out-of-pocket costs, significantly impact enrollment and retention. Social determinants like socioeconomic status, education, and cultural attitudes affect awareness and willingness to seek coverage. Technological advancements, including digital enrollment platforms and telehealth, have the potential to improve access but may also exacerbate disparities due to the digital divide. Legal regulations governing insurance markets and mandates shape the availability and scope of coverage for different populations. Environmental factors, such as economic recessions or public health emergencies, can alter enrollment patterns and prompt policy changes that either facilitate or hinder access to insurance.

    **Future Implications for Health Administrators:**

Among the six factors addressed in the PESTLE analysis, I believe that the political factor will have the greatest impact on my future as a healthcare administrator. Government policies and reforms include healthcare regulations, funding allocations, insurance mandates, and public health initiatives, making them the largest contributor to what will create direct change. Political intervention is the only avenue of decisions that will spark real change in healthcare, especially concerning insurance coverage. As previously mentioned over the course of the semester, in comparison to other healthcare delivery in other countries the U.S. is lacking in value and the current policies in place or lack thereof, directly shape the current predicament.  The lack of available resource management accompanied by the strategic profit-aimed priorities of healthcare organizations creates a healthcare system that is in dire need of interventional changes along with improved patient outcomes.  Political decisions can influence everything from reimbursement rates to coverage expansion and directly affect access, quality, and care costs. As a healthcare administrator, staying actively engaging in policy advocacy and creation is a goal of mine, I aim to hold a position where I can facilitate change in these areas.

    **PESTLE & Social Determinant Access:**

Focusing on socioeconomic status and education, key social determinants of health, can improve access to health insurance by reducing barriers and increasing awareness of issues by bringing it to the forefront of political agendas. Creating a social campaign, propaganda, and general societal motivation to get insured will lead to higher enrollment, better access to preventive care, and result in improved health outcomes. Addressing these factors promotes health equity, decreases disparities, and reduces long-term healthcare costs by preventing severe health issues caused by delayed care. It will also highlight the issue for policy makers, government officials and agencies, by increasing the importance and showing that health insurance and reform is valued by the people. Ultimately, this will become a campaign platform for future candidates on all levels/branches of government and that’s when real improvement begins.

    (2) Three main financial statements and their value to a corporate firm are:

    1. A Balance Sheet provides a snapshot of the financial health of a firm. It’s a statement that presents the assets, liabilities, and equity at any given point in time. It helps assess a firm's solvency and capital structure (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2024).

    2. The Income Statement reports revenues, expenses, and profits. It shows a firm's profitability over a period of time, typically a year, and helps evaluate performance and operational efficiency (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2024).

    3. A Cash Flow Statement shows the inflow and outflow of cash; it’s used to assess the ability to generate cash to meet financial obligations. Often used to pay for a firm's operations and investments. It also provides firms with an understanding of their long-term financial viability (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2024).

All three statements work together to provide a complete financial picture that helps companies make informed financial decisions.

    (4) The financial ratio category I feel is most important to a corporation is Debt Ratios. Ehrhardt & Brigham (2024) state that most firms prioritize Profitability Ratios, and I would agree that profit is important; however, if a corporation has more debt than revenue, it could be a risk. Debt Ratios can help a corporation assess its long-term survival, as they indicate whether it can meet obligations and sustain operations without excessive financial risk (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2024). Furthermore, they help investors assess risk and provide corporations with insights for strategic decision-making (such as negotiations, expansion, and acquisitions). While profitability is essential, the Debt Ratio indicates whether a corporation can survive.

    (5) Time Value of Money (TVM) plays a critical role in corporate finance; it’s practically used for every financial decision. Edspira (2013) explains that a sum of money is worth more now than in the future because of its earning potential. A corporation can use the money it earns today to invest and generate future returns, thereby increasing equity.  Corporations rely on this concept when evaluating investment opportunities, since future cash flows must be discounted to determine their present value. When a corporation needs to make an investment decision, it must assess whether the investment creates value by calculating expected future cash flows and ensuring those cash flows exceed the investment amount using tools such as Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) (Ehrhardt & Brigham, 2024).

There are two models of corporate governance: the shareholder wealth maximization model and the stakeholder model. Under the stakeholder model, the goal of the business is to prioritize and maximize benefits for all stakeholders involved, such as employees, local communities, environmental impact, and so on (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024). While noble, this model has inherent limitations. One of the key issues being that it “lacks any normative criteria by which business decisions may be evaluated as better or worse,” and essentially transforms business directors into politicians (Miller, 2022). This encourages preference for the shareholder wealth maximization model. When a business guides its decisions on wealth maximization, it generally benefits society by increasing overall wealth, adding more employees (lower unemployment), and providing better products to customers (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024).

There are four main financial statements used by firms: the balance sheet, the income statement, and the cash flow statement, and the statement of shareholder equity (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024). The balance sheet is a snapshot in time of a company’s financial position. The income statement shows a company’s performance during a specified period, usually prepared monthly, quarterly, and annually. Since income can be used in a variety of ways, a statement of cash flows is used to describe a company’s operating, investing, and financing activities. Finally, the statement of stockholder equity is used to report changes to stockholder equity, also listing out the key item of retained earnings.

An agency problem occurs if the insiders of a business “can act to benefit themselves at the expense of others” (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024). This is in direct conflict of their charter to act in the shareholders’ best interest. Corporate governance can minimize agency conflicts by creating a set of rules that control how a company behaves towards and interacts with all insiders and stakeholders. In addition to rules, a top-down commitment to ethical practices and legal adherence sets the example and expectation of how the organization can and should act.

There are overall five categories of ratio analysis: Profitability, Asset Management, Liquidity, Debt Management, and Market Value ratios. While all ratios have their uses and values, the category that is most important to a corporation is profitability ratios. These calculate net profit margin, basic earning power, return on total assets, and return on common equity (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024). Profitability ratios convey a company’s ability to generate profits from its operations (Bloomenthal, 2025). When the goal is maximizing shareholder wealth, a significant method of understanding the ability to achieve that goal is through analysis of how effectively a company generates profits.

The concept of the time value of money plays the most important role in finance (Brigham & Erhardt, 2024). It is the idea that money now is worth more than money in the future. This is demonstrated by opportunity cost (invested money today increases value through interest), inflation (the same amount of money in the future will buy less than it does now), and uncertainty (something could happen to the money before it is received) (Cote, 2022). TVM calculations are useful for translating “future money” into “current money” so that costs and values can be directly compared for financial decision-making.
