  • prepare a speech with the overall goal of persuading our audience of a topic of your choice….

    Prepare a
five to seven (5-7) minute persuasive speech
in which you prepare a speech with the overall goal of
    persuading
our audience of a topic of your choice. You will provide the instructor your topic for this speech in a discussion for approval.
    You
    may use Monroe’s Motivated Sequence
organizational pattern from chapter 13 for this assignment.
You will use at least five (5) pieces of evidence from chapter 12 (statistics, testimony, examples) of which two may be the same (for example: you could use two stats, two testimonies, and one example).
You must use at least five (5) outside sources (three of which may be from the Internet; sources from Wikipedia may not be used). At least two sources must be physical sources such as books, magazines, newspapers, etc.
    A
    visual aid is required
for your persuasive speech. The object(s) you choose must be large enough for your immediate audience to see and for the instructor to see on the speech video. You may use a Power Point slide on a large screen, enlarged photos, etc. However, if the object is not large enough to be seen in detail on the video the instructor will not be able to provide feedback or points (due to the lack of ability to view the visual aid object).
Your speech will include the following:
    Introduction (Attention)
Attention getter statement (consider a quote, short story, fun fact, etc.)
    Central Idea
    Credibility Statement
    Preview of Main Points
    Body
3 Main Points (Need, Satisfaction, Visualization)
Transitions (between all sections of your speech)
You can choose your own transition or consider using: “Now that I have told you about _________, I’m going to tell you about _________.”
    Conclusion (Action)
    Review of Main Points
Clincher Statement (consider a quote, an idea you want your audience to remember, etc.)

  • Topic: Moral Acceptability of Zoos- Formulate a position that fits within the general topic of…

Topic: Moral Acceptability of Zoos Formulate a position that fits within the general topic of the moral acceptability of zoos. This is a broad topic; you will need to narrow it down in order to formulate a position you can support in a short paper. The resources listed below are assigned reading for the course, and background for your paper. In addition to citing whichever one or more of these resources is relevant to your paper, make meaningful reference to at least one assigned ethical theorist’s work in addition to Bisgould, and excluding Regan, Singer, and Francione. (Also review general directions on the previous page.) Narrowing the topic (and your position): Arguing that zoos are morally unacceptable or morally acceptable is too much to take on in a short paper. Here are a few ways to narrow the topic by formulating your position in a way that allows you to focus on an aspect of the larger debate. These are not your only options; they are intended as illustrations. And they are not mutually exclusive; you could combine several of the suggestions. None guarantees a sufficiently narrow topic. • make the position conditional • limit the focus to certain kinds of zoos, or zoos with certain purposes • discuss a particular ethical theory or theorist in support of your position • limit your discussion to a certain kind/category/species of animal, as Moore does. • focus on one of the arguments for or against zoos by, for example, offering an objection. You can find arguments for and against zoos in Bisgould’s article and also in the documentary. Resources: 1. Leslie Bisgould, “Gay Penguins and Other Inmates in the Canadian Legal System”. Bisgould opposes keeping animals in zoos, but her discussion introduces key arguments in support of zoos. Note that the broader framework and conclusion of her argument is legal, whereas your paper will focus on ethics. 2. “Zoo Revolution”, a 45-minute CBC documentary (CBC Doc Zone) This documentary provides, through interviews, a variety of arguments both for and against zoos. 3. Richard Moore, “There is a moral argument for keeping great apes in zoos”. Moore’s perspective contrasts with Bisgould’s. 4. Brendan Borrell, “How Zoos Kill Elephants” (very short). 5. Anna Peterson, “Wild Animals”.

    Research Paper Using Word
This assignment has two goals: 1) have students, via research, increase their understanding of impacts of information
technology on current world issues, and 2) learn to correctly use the tools and techniques within Word to format a research
paper, including use of available References and citation tools. These skills will be valuable throughout a student’s
    academic career.
The paper will require a title page, NO abstract, three to five full pages of content with incorporation of a minimum of 3
external resources from credible sources and a Works Cited/References page. Wikipedia and similar general information
sites, blogs or discussion groups are not considered creditable sources for a research project. No more than 10% of the
paper may be in the form of a direct citation from an external source. Choose your topic from the list of topics that follow
    these organization steps.

  • Identify the criminological theory and the criminal event/type of crime you selected….

Criminological theories are systematic explanations for observed phenomena. That is, criminological theories rely upon either research experiments or real-life events to test their validity. In this course, you do not need to conduct full research experiments; but, you do need to conduct basic research and consume research done by others in order to effectively plan, prepare, and act upon real-life criminal justice events in your career. Theories also guide consumers of research in organizing concepts, developing strategies, and interpreting data; things you will utilize in other courses throughout this program of study.
Prepare for this Discussion by selecting a criminological theory and a particular criminal event or type of crime. Think about how this theory could be used to analyze the criminal event or type of crime.
Post by Day 4 of Week 3
Identify the criminological theory and the criminal event/type of crime you selected.
Explain how this criminological theory might be used to analyze the criminal event or type of crime you selected.
Explain why you think this criminological theory is or is not appropriate for analyzing this criminal event or type of crime.
Explain how this theory could be applied in order to prevent the criminal event/type of crime you selected.
